Ask IREX takes an investigation stated in plain words and assembles the multi-step search an analyst would otherwise build filter by filter, across an index of every face, figure, vehicle and event the estate has recorded. That is public safety data fusion with a deliberately narrow scope: the video, the detections, and the lists an agency has lawfully enrolled. Every privacy-sensitive query passes a Case ID gate before it runs, and leaves a Logbook entry after.

Proprietary descriptor clustering and indexing lets the platform search through billions of face, figure, and vehicle objects. Partners report search results in under a second across petabytes of video, a 100x or better reduction in investigation time, and 1,000+ cameras held by a single operator because search does the watching. That index is what law enforcement data fusion rests on here: one searchable record of what the estate saw, rather than a copy of another system of record.

Ask IREX is the agentic layer on top. Describe an investigation in plain language and the agents interpret the intent, cross-reference the relevant watchlists, and run the multi-step search across the archive through the IREX API. Enter a surname and the agent checks it against the watchlists that apply, then searches the area and timeframe you specified. It works from the main interface or from the Sover secure messenger, so a field officer can run it from a phone. Ask IREX is shipping in beta on selected instances.

What that changes is who can run a search at all. A conventional event search asks the operator to translate an intention into filters: pick the cameras, set the window, choose the object class, set the attribute values, then repeat the sequence when the first attempt returns too much or too little. Knowing which combination answers which question sits with the few people who use the system daily. Ask IREX removes the translation step, so an occasional user is productive without learning filter semantics, and an investigation that would have taken a run of manual searches runs as one request. The agent proposes and the operator decides: it returns findings and links, and takes no consequential action on its own.

This capability was previously marketed as Searchveillance™. The name was retired in 2026 because it evoked surveillance rather than the accountable investigation the platform actually performs.

    Draw an area, pick a window, and search the cameras inside it. Snapshot previews and instant playback open from the same view, and a search can be scoped to a building or a single floor plan rather than a street.

    Structured search on camera, location, tag, sensor type, priority and date and time, then on face and facial attributes, on vehicle make, model, color, type or plate, or on the event names an administrator assigned to a rule.

  3. In Plain Language

    Type what you are after, or send a photo. Ask IREX turns intent into the API calls, in English, Spanish, Arabic and other languages, and answers with a summary plus a link that opens the results with the filters already set.

  4. From the Secure Messenger

    The same natural-language access from Sover, so officers and analysts can follow up on an alert from any device. Both surfaces reach the same agents and the same API, so the results do not differ.

From a Question to a Result You Can Defend

Every Event the Estate Saw, in One Result Set

The Events screen is where a search lands. The dropdown on the left sets the subject: All, People for face-recognition events, Vehicles for plate-recognition events, or Additional events for everything that needs neither, from an unattended bag to a traffic jam to an intrusion into a restricted zone. The filter groups narrow by camera, location, tag, sensor type, priority, and date and time; criteria in different groups multiply, options inside one group add up. A user only ever sees events from cameras their user groups are entitled to, which is data minimization enforced by the software rather than by policy. Results arrive 24 cards at a time, each carrying the frame, the camera, the detection and the timestamp, and on a large cluster queries are queued and run in order so the operator can work elsewhere in the platform while one executes. Route on a card’s three-dot menu draws the subject’s waypoints in chronological order on the global map.

The Case ID Gate, and the Record It Leaves

A privacy-sensitive action does not start until the operator enters a Case ID: the reference to a document that provides the lawful grounds, in a standard [object] - [reason] - [document number] format, so a police case file, a court order or a missing-person report. The gate covers every event search, person and vehicle database management, alarm-monitor and gallery management, and live-video access, and it follows the action rather than the interface, so the same requirement holds for a request made through Ask IREX or through the API. The query then runs against the descriptor index under the operator’s own permissions and never beyond them, and results come back scoped to the cameras, watchlists and locations their role grants. Every step lands in the Logbook with who, what, when and why, append-only, with signed exports going daily to a secure archive an ethics committee, inspector general or court-appointed auditor can read without platform access. Searches of the Logbook are themselves logged.

The Guardrails

Why This Is Not a Surveillance Tool

  • IREX recognizes only pre-registered people and vehicles: wanted suspects, missing people, trafficking victims, vehicles flagged in a case. It cannot identify or track random individuals in public spaces, and an agent cannot ask the platform for something the platform will not do.
  • Before any privacy-sensitive search, the operator records the lawful grounds: a case file, a court order, a missing-person report. That Case ID is mandatory at platform level, not a configurable setting, and natural language is a different way to ask rather than an exemption.
  • Every search, match, and tracking action is written to an append-only, tamper-evident log, exported daily, and readable by supervisors and independent oversight bodies by design.
  • Results are visible only to users whose role grants access to that camera, that watchlist, and that location. A request that reaches past those permissions returns nothing, not a broader result.
  • Compliance auditing runs over the analytics usage itself and flags irregular patterns, so misuse shows up in the data rather than in a complaint.

What a Query Can Ask For

Subjects
People, from the Match and No match events face recognition produces. Vehicles, from plate recognition. Additional events, meaning everything that needs neither: crowding, unattended items, a restricted-zone intrusion, a traffic violation.
Without a Photo
Faces by gender, age band, ethnic appearance, distinctive features such as facial hair and glasses, and an estimated spoofing probability. Vehicles by type, color, make and speed. Where no face is visible at all, ObjectTrack Pro matches a person’s silhouette descriptor instead.
With a Photo
Upload a photo or a descriptor JSON file and set the similarity threshold; on a group photo, a dialog asks which face to search for. Search Photo on an event card finds every other event that caught the same face.
Result Set
24 event cards at a time, up to 360 for one query, held on screen for an hour. Under the asynchronous scheme large clusters use, each user has one query in the queue at a time and can cancel it while it waits.

FAQ

How fast is a search?

MetroCCTV, an IREX partner operating the platform in production, reports results in under a second across petabytes of video. Latency in your own deployment depends on the estate and is measured during the pilot. On a large cluster, searches are queued and executed in order, so a heavy query runs while the operator works elsewhere in the platform.

Is Ask IREX generally available?

Ask IREX is shipping in beta version on selected instances, and it is included in the standard IREX price with no separate license or subscription fee. The only additional cost is a local GPU node for inference where a deployment needs one. Natural-language interpretation is best-effort: when a result looks wrong, the operator refines the wording or falls back to the on-screen event search, which stays fully available.

Can we search when we have no photo of the suspect?

Yes. Facial-attribute search covers gender, age band, ethnic appearance, distinctive features such as facial hair and glasses, and an estimated spoofing probability, and appearance-based person re-identification builds a profile from clothing texture, hat and hair color, and accessories such as bags and backpacks. Where the face is not visible at all, ObjectTrack Pro calculates silhouette descriptors and matches a silhouette taken from a photo or from an existing event card against them.

Can we search footage our own cameras did not record?

Yes. Video uploaded from the field goes through the Gallery and is run through the same analytics modules that run on a live camera, so it lands in the archive as searchable events rather than as an attachment. Uploading and analyzing external video is itself a Case ID action, and access to uploaded media is granted per user group exactly as camera access is.

Who can see search results?

Only users whose role grants access to the relevant cameras, watchlists, and locations. The permission-driven interface is one of the six Ethical AI pillars: features, databases, match alerts, and search results are all scoped by role, and an agent acting for an operator inherits that operator’s permissions without any ability to escalate them.

How would an oversight body audit our use of this?

Through the Logbook and its exports. A supervisor filters it by user, date and time, or event type, searches it by Case ID to retrieve every action taken under one case across operators and months, or uploads a photo or descriptor to find the actions that used a similar face. The results compile into a downloadable CSV report, and signed exports go daily to a secure external archive that an ethics committee, inspector general or court-appointed auditor reads without needing platform access. Actions inside the Logbook are logged too, so auditing the audit trail leaves its own entry.

Is this police data fusion software?

It is data fusion with a defined perimeter, which is the honest version of the label. What IREX brings into one place is the video from every connected camera, the detections every analytics module produces, the watchlists an agency has lawfully enrolled, the external law-enforcement vehicle databases the platform is integrated with, and video files uploaded from the field and run through the same analytics, all searchable under one Case ID and one audit trail. What it is not is a CAD or an RMS: IREX holds no calls for service, no reports and no case records. It delivers alerts into real-time crime centers, 911 dispatch centers and secure messengers, and its alarm-monitor webhook lets any event trigger an action in a third-party system.

Does it integrate with CAD and RMS?

Only in the directions the platform documents. Outbound: low-latency alerts are delivered through real-time crime centers, 911 dispatch centers and secure messenger applications, and the generic alarm-monitor webhook pushes an event and its frame to any HTTP endpoint, so a CAD, an RMS or a notification tool can be triggered by an IREX event. Inbound: the platform integrates with external law-enforcement vehicle databases for stolen, uninsured and unregistered checks, and with external devices such as Sigur access control and Netping. Named CAD or RMS product integrations are not documented, and neither is operator single sign-on against your identity provider, so both are scoped in the design phase rather than assumed here.

Can a fusion center use it as its analytics layer?

Architecturally it is built for that. As a public sector data fusion platform it is multi-tenant, so several agencies share one deployment as tenants, users sit in a hierarchical catalog of groups each granted specific cameras, watchlists, locations and monitors, and every search, match and tracking action is written to an append-only log that supervisors and independent oversight bodies can read. Fusion center analytics over video is what the product does. IREX publishes no named fusion-center deployment, so judge it as regional fusion center software on the production references it does publish and on a pilot with your own archive.

Is this criminal intelligence database software?

No. IREX indexes what its cameras saw, under rules that keep the index narrow: only pre-registered people and vehicles are recognized, a privacy-sensitive search records a lawful basis and a Case ID before it runs, results are visible only to roles entitled to that camera, watchlist and location, and every action is logged. Criminal intelligence software in the records sense holds tips, associations, intelligence reports and case files, and IREX holds none of those. It is the video-evidence layer an investigator queries, not the system of record.
