Person Re-Identification When the Face Is Not Visible
Most useful camera footage does not show a face. Person re-identification works from what a camera can actually see: what someone is wearing and carrying, and how that combination persists across cameras.
The Capability
A Profile Built from Appearance
A specialized machine-learning engine constructs a unique profile for each person from distinctive attributes: clothing texture, hat and hair color, and accessories such as bags and backpacks. That profile is what carries a track when the face is occluded, masked, or simply off-angle.
It is not identification. Re-identification links appearances of the same appearance profile across cameras; it does not tell you who the person is. In practice that is often precisely what an investigation needs, and it is a materially lower privacy imposition than face matching.
Person re-identification composes with the rest of the platform: it extends a face-initiated track past the cameras where the face is not visible, and it feeds the same map-based multi-camera tracking, search, and audit trail.

FAQ
Is this facial recognition by another name?
No. Re-identification links appearances of the same appearance profile across cameras without identifying who the person is. It is a lower privacy imposition than face matching, and it operates under the same Case ID and audit requirements.
What breaks it?
A change of clothes, principally. That is why the platform combines identifiers rather than relying on one: faces where visible, appearance where not, and vehicle attributes for vehicles.
What camera quality does it need?
Any camera that supports ONVIF or streams RTSP with H.264 or H.265 on a static IP can be connected, but connection is not the bar. Each module sets its own resolution, mount position, height, and angle-of-view requirements in the camera requirements, the flagship modules need higher-resolution imagery of the scene than a bare stream, and the recommended primary stream is 1920 × 1080 or 1920 × 1440. A site survey confirms every camera against the module it will run.
Does this run on its own or does someone have to watch it?
It runs on its own and alerts a person. Detections are signals for a human to verify: no response runs autonomously, and the verification and decision are logged against the same Case ID as the detection.
