One Global Map and Floor Plans for Every Camera and Sensor

Operators do not think in camera lists, they think in places. The IREX map groups the whole estate geographically, works offline, and carries indoor floor plans on the same layers as the street.

What It Is

Spatial Awareness at National Scale

The map engine groups hundreds of thousands of cameras with seamless zoom, from the world view down to a single doorway. Smart clustering decides what to draw at the current scale, under the permissions in force and the filters applied, so a badge stands in for a crowd of devices until an operator zooms into it, and the view stays legible whether the estate is one campus or a country.

The map and the plans are stored in your own private cloud rather than fetched from a public map service at runtime, so the view stays available if that service or the internet connection is down, which is what lets it run in air-gapped and sovereign deployments. The base map is OpenStreetMap data and can be edited with standard tools, so a missing road or address is a correction your own team can make.

Cameras are only one layer. Thermal, PTZ and mobile cameras, video uploads, and multiple layers of user-defined devices carry the rest of the estate: ATMs, legacy CCTV systems, intercoms and other sensors, each with its own icon and its own visibility rules. Indoor floor plans sit in the same environment, so a venue, a station or a campus is navigable at the level operators actually work.

From the map itself an operator gets snapshot previews, instant video playback, object search, and visual tracking of people and vehicles, without leaving the view.

The World View, Kept Legible by Clustering

At start-up the map opens on the world and draws devices isolated or as clusters depending on the scale, with the count carried on the cluster badge. An operator reads the shape of the estate before reading any one camera, then narrows it from the toolbar: Tags, Cameras and Places by ID, address, building or plan, Video Analytics by the modules enabled on a camera, Sensors by camera type, and Other Filters by resolution and status. A Map chip appears when cameras that still match the filters sit outside the visible area.

A City, with Live Video One Hover Away

Zoom in and the clusters split into single cameras. A camera icon shows the direction it is looking relative to the coordinate axis, and its color is its state: blue for a device up and running, red for one offline or with signal lost. Hover a camera for a preview in a pop-up, click it to open the live stream in the media player against the exact location, or hover a building to get the previews from every camera inside it in one pop-up and scroll to the one you want. Cameras, buildings and plans are also searchable on the map by ID or address, on the consolidated list, or by picking a level of the location hierarchy.

Where the Street Map Ends

Two questions follow the moment an operator has found the camera: what does the inside of this building look like, and where did the subject go.

Floor Plans on the Same Layers as the Street

Buildings and plans are user layers over the map. Clustering keeps them out of the way until the scale is big enough, then a click on a building opens its plans, floor by floor. A plan carries the same camera icons in their real positions and view directions, and the same hover preview, so the indoor half of a site is navigated exactly like the outdoor half. IREX applies the term loosely on purpose: a plan is a detailed spatial overlay on a street map, which makes it as useful for a large outdoor site, an airport apron, a campus or a park, as for a corridor, and it is the base layer multi-camera traffic analytics uses to position cameras at an intersection.

A Route Built from Events, Not from a Guess

From an event card, a person or vehicle list, or an alarm monitor, the Route command builds the target’s path across the map for the time frame chosen, in the order IREX cameras saw it, with travel direction and the first and last events. What it draws is deliberately modest: a directed broken line joining the waypoints in chronological order, and not a claim about the true trajectory between them. The encircled number at a waypoint is how many events were captured there, so a long dwell reads differently from a pass-through. Since version 4.35 the route continues indoors, with a Buildings Found panel listing every plan the route touches, grouped by building, one click from switching the route onto the plan.

The Objects the Map Is Made Of

  1. Locations, Created by the Cameras Themselves

    Register a camera or a venue with an address and IREX creates the locations from it automatically, in a nationally specific hierarchy of up to seven levels from country to house number, with the camera belonging to every level. Nobody draws a region by hand, and a search can ask for every camera, building and plan in a county as easily as for one street.

  2. Map Marks for What Is Not a Camera

    Police stations, medical aid points, firefighter bases and anything else that changes how an incident is answered go on the map as marks, each belonging to a type with its own icon from the library. The User Layer button shows them, a hover gives the name, type and description, and checking a type leaves only those marks drawn. Creating, editing or deleting a mark or a type is logged in every possible detail.

  3. Layers for the Rest of the Estate

    Above CCTV the map takes other sensor types, thermal, PTZ and mobile cameras and video downloads among them, each drawn with its own icon, plus multiple layers of user-defined devices such as ATMs, legacy CCTV systems and intercoms. Geo-referenced information from those sensors reaches the same view as the cameras rather than a second console.

  4. Status in the Icon

    The color of a device icon is its state: blue for up and running, red for offline or signal lost. Camera icons carry view direction as well, so a gap in coverage is visible on the map instead of deducible from a list, and Other Filters narrows the view to a status, Online, Signal lost or Disabled, when an operator wants only the ones that need attention.

  5. The Same Map over a Thin Link

    Where bandwidth is the constraint, an edge server architecture lowers channel requirements and steadies performance. Deployment teams create the edge servers and administrators then open access to them per user group, like every other resource behind the map.

The Rules the Map Runs Under

  • A route is a directed line between waypoints in chronological order. It is not a claim about the path taken between them, and the product says so on the screen rather than in the small print.
  • Tracking a person or a vehicle is a high-risk action, so it is logged and associated with the Case ID or other legitimate reason for the investigation, for supervisors and ethics committees to review.
  • Access is granted by user group, never by operator convenience. Locations, buildings, plans, map marks, mark types and edge servers are each assigned, and opening a location opens the cameras and venues inside it, child locations included.
  • IREX neither owns nor accesses your video, events, logs or floor plans. The map is yours, on infrastructure you control.

FAQ

Does the map need internet access?

No. The map and floor-plan environment is offline, and both the map and the plans are stored in your own private cloud, so the view stays available if the public map site or the internet connection is down. That is what allows it to run in air-gapped and sovereign deployments.

How do our floor plans get onto the map?

A plan is uploaded as a JPG or PNG image and created under Settings with a name, a number of floors, a category and facility type, a description, and the user groups that will have it. You then place the venue on the map with a click and it takes its address from the map data, which also makes it searchable by address. Cameras are positioned on the plan and on the big map at the same time.

Who can see which part of the map?

Access is managed by user group. Locations, buildings, plans, map marks, mark types and edge servers are each assigned to groups, and making a location available makes every camera, building and plan in it available too, along with its child locations, so access to a city opens the streets inside it. A venue that became accessible through its location is unassigned by unassigning the location, not the venue.

Can we put non-camera devices on it?

Yes. Multiple layers of user-defined devices are supported, for example ATMs, legacy CCTV systems, and intercoms, alongside thermal, PTZ and mobile cameras and video uploads, each with its own role-based visibility.

Does indoor tracking work on floor plans?

Yes. Since version 4.35 a route continues onto floor plans as well as the street map, with a Buildings Found panel listing the plans the route touches, so stations, venues and campuses are navigable at the level operators work. The same overlay serves large outdoor sites and acts as the base layer for multi-camera traffic analytics.
